María Humbelina used to work as a nanny in her community. Now she is the secretary for a women’s committee that runs a non-governmental organization that supports women’s development. Her degree focused on providing care though government institutions. Now, María Humbelina enjoys using her education to help her companions in the women’s group by writing for them or explaining situations in their native language.

The moment that she received a scholarship she knew that her life had changed, because she no longer needed to work and study, and was able to focus exclusively on her studies- something that would not have been possible without the support of the Kateri Tekakwitha Fund. Now with her education she has the opportunity to use technology and hopes to one day find a job in a business or institution.
