“Hello, I'm Ana Lucia and I'm excited to join the amazing team as Workshop Manager for the Kateri Tekakwitha Fund and start this new professional stage.

“I am a woman who has dedicated my life to the service of the community starting with volunteer work in the field of education and women's rights. My passion for transforming people's reality through learning has led me to develop educational projects in various communities.

“Throughout my career, I have witnessed the transformative power of education, especially where women face social and cultural barriers to education. I firmly believe that education is a tool that can empower women.

“Through our work at the Kateri Fund, we seek to remove barriers, promote equal opportunities, and create an environment where women can reach their full potential. I am convinced that investing in women's education is key to the development of a more equitable, prosperous and sustainable society. I am honored to be part of this change and this project that works every day for a better future for all.”

May Intern Workshop

As part of her role, Ana Lucía hosts monthly online workshops with program participants, addressing things such as self-esteem, teamwork, effective communication, and other themes that will be useful in both the professional and personal lives of the young women.

In addition, every three months the interns gather for an in-person workshop to share about their experiences. Ana Lucía led her first in-person workshop in May. The interns played a game of Telephone which led to a great deal of laughter, but also a discussion about the importance of clear communication.

Later in the workshop they took part in an activity in which they each inflated a balloon and tried to keep it in the air. They discovered that this was quite hard to do, causing frustration and confusion. The discussion that followed allowed them to reflect about how, in their efforts to take care of others, they sometimes neglect their own needs.

There was also time during the session to talk about responsibilities, issues that the young women face, and other important topics. They ended with a shared meal and a celebration of several of the young women’s birthdays.

There are currently 10 interns gaining work experience through this program. Another five will be starting their intern year in July.
